Commission a Portrait
Thanks for visiting my website! Here is the step by step process to commission your very own portrait. This page contains all the general information but please feel free to contact me with any questions you may still have.
First I will need you to send me photos of portrait subject(s). In order for me to create highly detailed portraits, it is important to send me a high resolution image. Please see below for guidelines when selecting a photo. I will work with you to choose the best size, composition and background. With these details agreed upon, I will send you an invoice, and your half payment places you on my portrait list.
I offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee. During the portrait creating process, I will send you update photos to ensure you are completely satisfied with the progress. I do this so you can work with me to create the perfect portrait. I am open to any suggestions you may have so please don't hesitate to speak up. You will be able to view your final portrait, which I will only send when you are completely satisfied.
Prices & Payment
Please see the info graphic on my "Portrait Prices" page for a current list of my prices.
Half the commission fee is due before I will add your name to my list. The remaining balance must be paid before I will ship the painting. I will send you a Venmo invoice after we solidify all details. Personal checks or money orders are allowed, however I will not begin your project until the check has cleared. Of course, there will never be any surprise fees or costs. We will discuss all the details beforehand.
Background, Multiple Subjects & extras
In my opinion, is best to keep the background simple so the subject can remain the focal point. I think a solid color, or sometimes two colors working together is best. I'm open to suggestions on the background color if you have one in mind. For black and white portraits I usually do a gradual shaded background or none at all, whichever you prefer. Creation of an elaborate background (more than described above) will be an extra $45 and may extend the due date of your portrait.
My prices are for a traditional portrait in the head and shoulders style. However, I'm happy to extend the portrait to include more such as hands, full torso or even a full body portrait. Extended portraits such as these will be an extra $45.
If you want to commission a portrait with multiple subjects (people/pets), I suggest going with a larger size for maximum detail. I will always let you know which size I think will work best. Each additional subject will be an extra $50.
Working with Photographs
The quality of the photographs you supply me greatly affect the outcome and quality of your finished portrait. It is very important to send me photographs that exhibit great detail and focus. I suggest sending a few photographs so I may get an understanding of the subject(s). You can email me a high resolution image (preferably 300dpi or greater) or submit the images through my order contact form. You can also mail me a photo CD, which will be mailed back to you with the portrait. If you don't have any high quality photos, no worries, I will most likely be able to work with the photos you have on hand. Due to copyright laws, I ask that you don't send photos from a professional photographer without a signed release form from the photographer.
Timeline
I accept commissions on a first come, first served basis. Portrait completion times vary based on the number of subjects and the type of medium being used. Black and white pencil portraits are the fastest (less than 1 week for single subject). Oil painting portraits take the longest due to drying times (up to 8 weeks). If I don't have orders ahead of you I can start right away. If otherwise, I will let you know when you can expect your portrait to be completed. All of this will be discussed before any payment is taken.
Shipping & Packaging
I currently ship through USPS Priority Mail and now offer free shipping within the continental United States. For shipping to other locations I will have to find out the cost and get back to you. If you are local to the Fort Walton Beach, Destin, Niceville or Navarre area I would be happy to deliver the portrait in person.
Terms & Conditions
Your name, address, phone number or email and any other private information will never be shared with anyone else. After you receive your portrait I will ask you for a brief testimonial which will include the first letter of your first name, your last name, and your city/state. I will display this on my website but only with your permission. I really appreciate all the positive feedback I receive which helps me grow my business and allows me to do what I love.
I own all copyrights to the artwork I create. All finished work may be posted on my website, on any of my Facebook, Instagram and Twitter accounts, and in any advertising I create.
I encourage sharing your painting on social media - it's this type of word of mouth that keeps my business going and it is very much appreciated. With my consent you may share any works created by me on any social media platform and I would be very appreciative if you would mention my website, www.portraitsbyjoi.weebly.com, in the process.
I look forward to working with you!
